The exhibition was presented at the meeting ‘THE CHILD’S RIGHT TO NON-VIOLENCE’, organised by the Instituto de Apoio à Criança (IAC) in collaboration with the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Young People.
This initiative was organised as part of the Month for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment and was intended to be a moment of reflection on sexual violence and physical abuse, with the participation of national and international experts.
In addition to Vice Rector of the University José Duarte Nogueira, speakers included the President of the IAC Board of Directors Dulce Rocha, Vice President of the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Adolescents Maria João Fernandes, Promoter of the Justice Initiative Guido Fluri and Deputy Secretary of State for Justice Jorge Costa.
The meeting also presented the research by Prof. Amos Guiora, professor of law at the University of Utah in the United States, which highlights the negative role of the system that promotes the “cover-up” of abuse by removing the perpetrators from responsibility. Participants were also able to attend two lecture series, one dedicated to sexual violence, the other to physical abuse, with the participation of several academics and specialists.
In 2021, the IAC joined the challenge launched by the “Guido Fluri Foundation” and became a partner in the “Justice Initiative” project, whose mission is to recognize the suffering of child victims of any kind of abuse/violence in Europe (even if some are now adults), as well as their psychological recovery and reparation.
