Today, the exhibition ‘SHAME – European Stories’ opened at the City of Athens Cultural Center “Melina”.  The exhibition, under the patronage of the City of Athens, features the powerful portraits of survivors of sexual violence from across Europe. Among them are three survivors from Greece.

“The victims still suffer massively today from the abuse they had to experience as children. Nevertheless, most countries have so far failed to acknowledge, come to terms with or make reparations. This is not compatible with European values,” says Guido Fluri. Together with survivor groups from all over Europe he launched the Justice Initiative (www.justive-initiative.eu), which aims to coming to terms with abuse in Europe.

In Greece, too, there are thousands of survivors of abuse. The exhibition in Athens aims to open the eyes of those who visit, says the Hub director of the Justice Initiative, Angeliki Vergitsi: «The exhibition in Athens should intensify the discussion about abuses also here in Greece. As elsewhere in Europe, we have much room for improvement to protect children. The survivors of the past should get justice and the children of today should get more protection».
