A few weeks before Justice Initiative’s petition signatures are due to be handed in, pressure is mounting on the European Union (EU) to act as soon as possible to make the internet safe, especially for children and young people. Representatives from Justice Initiative’s head office and the Portuguese and Nordic hubs participated at ECLAG’s (European Child Sexual Abuse Legislation Advocacy Group) Day of Action on September 19, which brought together around 50 survivors, youth activists and children’s rights organisations in Brussels.

Activists staged a performance in front of the European Parliament, where a ‘Clean Up the Internet Crew’ demonstrated with placards and slogans, calling on the authorities to protect children from online abuse. The lobbying work then moved into the corridors of the European Parliament, where members of Justice Initiative and other NGOs including ECPAT and BraveMouvement, met with MEPs from various countries, explaining the situation and asking them to approve the new European regulatory proposal.
