The Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) launches implementation of Council of Europe Resolution 2533

WARSAW, 19 June 2026 – The Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) has taken a historic step by beginning the implementation of Resolution 2533 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on accountability, redress and safeguarding for survivors of child sexual abuse. At an international conference in Warsaw, co-organised with the Justice Initiative, representatives of more than 40 Protestant churches launched a multi-year European process to strengthen prevention, safeguarding and survivor support. The Justice Initiative, which successfully lobbied for the adoption of Resolution 2533, welcomes this important milestone.

France: new historic step for survivors of child deportation from La Réunion, supported by Justice Initiative

PARIS, 16 June 2026 – France has taken an important step towards addressing a painful chapter in its history, as the Senate has passed a landmark bill recognising the forced transfer of thousands of children from Réunion to mainland France between 1962 and 1984. The law implements the recommendations of Council of Europe Resolution 2533, paving the way for official recognition and compensation measures for the survivors. The vote follows years of campaigning by survivors, civil society organisations and international human rights activists.

Major Success for Justice Initiative in France

Paris, 28 January 2026 – Justice Initiative and its President Guido Fluri welcome a major step forward for justice in France after the National Assembly unanimously adopted the bill introduced by deputy Karine Lebon concerning the former minors of La Réunion known as the “Enfants dits de la Creuse.” The decision opens the way toward long-awaited reparations for thousands of children who, between 1962 and 1984, were taken from La Réunion and sent to mainland France under a state-run policy that led to separation, abuse, and lifelong trauma.

Spain Takes a Historic Step Toward Justice for Survivors of Clerical Abuse

Madrid, 9 January 2026 – Spain has reached a landmark Church–State agreement on the recognition, reparation, and financial compensation of victims and survivors of clerical sexual abuse. The agreement represents a decisive breakthrough after years of advocacy led by survivors and supported by civil society organizations, notably ANIR (Association for Stolen Childhood) and Justice Initiative Spain, an NGO funded by the Guido Fluri Foundation.

Justice Initiative in Serbia: a success

As part of the Belgrade Photo Month, the exhibition “Shame – European Stories” made a stop in Belgrade. The portraits of abuse survivors from across Europe – including individuals from Serbia – sparked significant interest. Equally well received was the Justice Initiative, which calls for a thorough and consistent process of reckoning and justice. Guido Fluri was sought after by the media.

Reparation for the “Enfants de la Creuse”: Historic Bill Presented in Paris

In a landmark move, French deputy Karine Lebon presented a historic bill at the French National Assembly calling for reparations for the ex-minors from La Réunion known as the “Enfants de la Creuse.” Between 1962 and 1984, thousands of children were taken from La Réunion Island and relocated to mainland France under a state-run policy, many suffering separation, abuse, and lifelong trauma.
